At another well attended branch meeting today, members voted in favour of escalating action in defence of jobs at Sussex. In a separate motion, the Branch also gave support to the Sussex Six, students facing disciplinary hearings following the occupation in early March.
Regarding future action, members were clear that any action must be tightly targeted and instructed the executive to report back within 7 days with detailed plans. The Branch also called for a wider academic boycott of the University should the threat of compulsory redundancies not be withdrawn.
Full motions (as amended by the meeting) can be downloaded here.

Hi Paul, Kerith and other UCU exec.
We in PCS just want to continue to voice/text/message our support for this action. Unlike some other members it is difficult for us to sometimes attend meetings as we have committmetns to vulnerable students. However I am glad to say our membership in the unit have been rock solid on the strike to date ( which I find particularly gratifying as manager). Some os us managed the march and rally too.
We so appreciate the campaign and the philosophy which thankfully continues to oppose the attempt to turn the ideal of liberalist/radical education into an enterprise business along the lines of MacDonalds.
Sorry we are not more active or visible – but that is in a way our profile on campus anyway.
Nuff said
Many thanks for the visibility you take on our behalf.

I am so sorry I forgot to attend the meeting yesterday, but I would have voted for both motions. On 18 May I’m away, but I completely support the Sussex Six and the demo.
It would be good to have a feel for how many people are actually taking action – the HR process of declaration leaves us anonymous, and there must be an additional means as well as being on the picket line of letting us all know how many we are.
